TOP 10 Nintendo Switch FPS Games

10. ION Fury

ION Fury is like a long lost 2.5D shooter that’s been hidden away on a floppy disc since the 90s. Only, it’s less than a year old! Yes, ION Fury is a love letter to a bygone, Duke Nukem-Esque era of gaming, where level design and ‘over the top’ violence were more important than character development and nuanced storytelling. Fortunately, it also includes a few quality of life improvements for the modern player, including auto-saving and HD support, making it the perfect balance between new and old.

9. Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-Tered

A remaster of a hidden gem, Red Faction Guerilla Re-Mars-Tered deserves a second look. A story of a rebellion on Mars, on the surface there isn’t a great deal to separate it from any other shooter. But once you start playing, and you notice almost every surface and building is destructible, you’ll release it’s a different beast altogether. These unique physics make even the most mundane mission an absolute riot, and even a decade on from its original release, no other game offers such delightful carnage.

8. Metro Redux

A remaster of two of the best horror shooters of all time, Metro Redux bundles Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light for a true bargain that you’ll be playing for hours. It’s atmospheric, bleak and at times, truly terrifying, offering a story that does the source material justice. Technically, it’s also one of the most impressive ports we’ve seen on the Switch to date, with zero bugs and framerate issues.

7. Borderlands

The original ‘Looter Shooter’, Borderlands is an absolute riot. Looking as good as it first released thanks to its cell-shaded art style, you’ll traverse a vibrant post-apocalyptic world through an adventure filled with iconic characters. With a choice of single-player or co-op action, not to mention more weapons than you can shake the proverbial stick at, you’ll find hours of fun on the planet Pandora.

6. Doom (2016)

Consider the rampant disembowelling found in the Switch port of Doom to satiate your sadistic streak. The frenetic, non-stop action feels right at home on the Switch, as you mow down wave after wave of hellspawn. If you’re looking for a deep storyline, look elsewhere, if you’re looking for some of the tightest gameplay around, rev up your chainsaw and get chopping.

5. Ark: Survival Evolved

Ark doesn’t start as an FPS, but play it for enough time and it becomes a pretty good one!Dumping you on a beach with little more than a dirty loincloth, you’ll soon be tested against dinosaurs, dragons and most annoyingly of all, other players. After hours of crafting and grafting, you’ll progress from your prehistoric beginnings to a futuristic master of your domain. Although Ark plays better as a multiplayer experience, there is a surprisingly deep and satisfying single-player campaign to tackle as well.

4. Payday 2

One of the most unique FPS experiences on the Switch, Payday 2 has the power to make and break friendships in equal measure! Squad up to undertake daring bank heists as a gang of masked criminals, contending with pesky police forces, faulty equipment and occasionally worst of all, your own teammates! A must play, and worth getting the Switch Online service for this alone.

3. Sniper Elite 3 - Ultimate Edition

The unparalleled king of Switch stealth shooters (trying saying that 3 times fast), no game will get your palms sweating like this. Improving on its predecessor with larger maps and more random encounters, there’s never been a more immersive sniper simulator on a mobile console. And if the prospect of shooting Nazis in the balls isn’t enough to entice you, what is?

2. Wolfenstein 2

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is another stellar FPS by Bethesda, who’ve really dominated the genre on the Switch. Taking place immediately after the finale of its predecessor, The New Colossus sees you reprise the role of B.J. Blazkowicz in his mission to take down the Nazi regime in a grim, alternative version of the USA. Tight gunplay and impressive graphics for the console make this a joy to play.

1. Bioshock: The Collection

Would you kindly try this legendary series? If you haven’t played a Bioshock game before (firstly, shame on you), then this is the perfect opportunity to do so. This action-adventure trilogy were some of the most celebrated games of the previous console generation, with an engaging story and pulse-raising gameplay. All 3 titles feel right at home on the Switch, with stable performance and all available DLC included to keep you playing for hours.
