Top 10 PS4 Exclusives

10. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim might not have garnered the headlines compared to other games released this year, but we’d consider it one of the most essential plays of recent memory. A tale of 13 teenagers who get swept up in a war between mechs and kaijus, it features time travel, multiple dimensions and other twists, all the while never feeling overwhelming. It combines accessible gameplay with an outstanding narrative and art style, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call playing it a transformative experience. If you own a PS4, you need to play this game.

9. Ratchet & Clank

It might follow the storyline of that legendary first game, but Ratchet and Clank for PS4 is so improved that it’s a beast of its own. This remastering isn’t just graphical - it updates the original with all the best features of later games in the series. Expect the usual - silly jokes that wink and nod to all ages, tricky puzzle platforming and a large roster of insane weapons to clear levels with.

8. Persona 5

As if fantastic gameplay wasn’t enough, what sets Persona 5 apart from the crowd is the innovative design - everything from the menu screens to the gameplay visuals ooze style. The gameplay is traditional, loveable turn-based combat with some overworld puzzles thrown in. If you’re a completionist, there’s over 100 hours of gameplay to enjoy. The grand story, loveable characters and unforgettable visual style create a game that is truly unique in its genre.

7. The Last of Us Remastered

The Last Of Us is one of those timeless games that will never not cut straight to your heart. Remastered not only does the original fantastic justice but also comes packaged with the Left Behind expansion. The unforgettable story of Joel and Ellie in a world ravaged by a zombie apocalypse is told through engaging and strategic survival action gameplay that starves out resources enough to mean that you’re always on edge in any confrontation.

6. Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon was the greatest surprise of 2017, and protagonist Aloy has already become a mascot for the console. Horizon is set in a world where feral robots dominate a planet populated by a primitive society of humans, and this concept informs worldbuilding in every way possible. From story and environment to costumes and weaponry, design breathes life into the world. Also, you get to hunt down giant mechanical dinosaurs with a bow and arrow rigged with futuristic tech. What’s not to absolutely love?

5. The Last Of Us Part 2

The Last of Us is a game that needs no introduction. Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic action-adventure title wowed both fans and critics with its compelling characters and nuanced storytelling. Set 7 years after its predecessor, The Last of Us Part 2 picks up Joel and Ellie’s story. With one of the most shocking stories ever told in gaming, more of the same competent gameplay and the best-looking visuals from this console generation, The Last of Us Part 2 is a piece of art that everyone should experience.

4. Ghost Of Tsushima Director's Cut

For those of you unfamiliar with Ghost of Tsushima - you play as Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior and sole remaining member of his clan. To avenge them, he must toe the line between remaining true to his samurai principles, and using the guerilla tactics he learns throughout the game to secure a dishonourable advantage over opponents. Visually stunning, mechanically tight and with an incredible story, this game is packed with action from start to finish.

3. Uncharted 4

The conclusion of smart-mouthed treasure hunter Nathan Drake’s story (for now) was a fitting end for one of Sony’s biggest mascots and one of the console’s best exclusive series. Spilling with clever puzzles, detailed level design and clearly an insane amount of historical research, this game is clearly filled with all of the heart of a passionate team. Even if you haven’t played any of the previous games, you’re going to love it.

2. Spider-man

Nobody expected that a franchise tie-in game would become one of the best exclusives on the PS4, but Spider-man surpassed all expectations. This iteration of Peter Parker is already a fan favourite. The original storyline has incredible highs and lows, cinematic action and tear-jerking moments. Packaged with tight combat mechanics and ridiculously fun web-slinging through a near-perfect recreation of New York City, there’s nothing not to love.

1. God of War

This 2018 revamp of the classic Playstation exclusive series should technically be the sequel to 2010’s God Of War III, but the tone is so different you can’t blame them for naming it for a different generation. Gone are the orgies in exchange for Fatherhood. You’ll still find gore, but it’s no longer quite so self-indulgent. This perfectly woven story is told through almost faultless gameplay and creates one of the best games available right now - full stop.
