TOP 10 Nintendo Wii All-Time Best Games

10. Kirby's Epic Yarn

One of the most original looking games on the Wii, Kirby’s Epic Yarn is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that looks like it was made with materials from an arts and crafts shop. You play as the titular pink blob, except instead of sucking up your enemies, this time to wrap them up in balls of yarn which can then be lobbed at destructible walls or other baddies. Its cutesy design and gentle difficulty curve make it perfect for younger players, yet seasoned pros will also find a lot to love purely thanks to its undeniable uniqueness

9. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

While Mario has had incredible 3D outings, he’ll always feel most at home in 2D side-scrolling adventures. New Super Mario Bros. Wii demonstrates that this established formula can still be innovative and enthralling to this day, offering 8 beautifully designed worlds to navigate, either solo or with friends in local co-op. The perfect game for long time fans of Mario or those picking up a controller for the first time.

8. Okami

This beautiful RPG sees you play the role of the sun goddess Amaterasu, a wolf who awakens from an ancient slumber to save the world. Taking heavy inspiration from The Legend Of Zelda, it boasts a gorgeous world that flows from location to location really nicely, making it an absolute joy to explore. With plenty of gameplay variation and an impressive upgrade system for your abilities, there’s a reason the name Okami has gone down in gaming history.

7. Metroid Prime Trilogy

Combining Metroid Prime 1 and 2 plus Metroid Corruption, there’s plenty to enjoy in this collection. Taking the franchise from platformer to first person, it’s chock-full of exciting combat, engaging elemental puzzles and beautiful worlds to explore. With updated textures and lighting, it’s still the best way to experience each game.

6. Mario Kart Wii

The king of the ‘kart’ racers, Mario Kart Wii is without a doubt the best racing game on the console. It has all the classic ‘easy to pick up, difficult to master’ gameplay that the series is known for, but now with the added benefit of motion controls. There are few things more satisfying than controlling your racer with what is effectively a steering wheel, leaning into corners as if you were actually there. Just remember to keep your wrist strap on in case you get Blue Shell-ed, otherwise, controllers might fly.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The first Zelda to take the series into the modern era, Skyward Sword is nothing short of revolutionary. With a sumptuous art style, a quicker style of play and some of the best motion controls ever designed for the console, it’s easy to lose hours (if not days) in this utterly charming game. With a cinematic story to boot, it’s sure to tug at your heartstrings as much as it keeps your fingers busy [insert innuendo here].

4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

It’s commonly known that there isn’t a single bad Smash Bros. game, but Brawl might be one of the best of this stellar bunch. With 35 fighters and more than 40 levels from some of the most iconic game franchises, there’s plenty of variety to discover. Despite so much on offer, everything feels nicely balanced, meaning no matter who you play as, everyone will have a fair chance at victory, making it one of the best party games on the Wii.

3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Often regarded as one of the best Zelda games, and undisputedly one of the greatest launch titles of all time, Twilight Princess is a delightful experience. A much darker game than The Windwaker, it has all the tight gameplay, imaginative world and endless variety that’s now synonymous with the franchise. You can even fire your bow using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, something that even to this day, never gets old.

2. Super Paper Mario

Part platformer, part RPG, Super Paper Mario offers something enticingly different from Nintendo. With shifting 2D to 3D perspective allows for engaging puzzles that you won’t find anywhere else on the Wii. Plenty of hilarious dialogue helps to give this game as much charm as interesting gameplay. Plus you get to see Bowser in a wedding tuxedo - what more could you possibly want?

1. Super Mario Galaxy

Not just one of the best Mario games ever, but one of the best platformer games ever, this is an absolute must-play. Making good use of the Wii’s motion controls, you’ll have to traverse Mario through some of the most colourful, imaginative levels found anywhere. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation, and despite being well over a decade old, feels as fresh as ever.
