10. Halo Reach

Offering one of the most intense campaigns in the Halo franchise, Reach sets the stage for the Halo trilogy with a thrilling tale of the UNSC and Covenant clash. As Noble Team, you will fight alongside a squad of Spartan soldiers - each with their own deadly talents and individual personalities - as you embark on a stunning Halo experience that takes full advantage of the Xbox 360’s graphics, audio, AI and animation.

9. Fable II

Easily one of the finest RPGs in gaming, Fable II allows players to build their own life and destiny in the vast land of Albion. With every choice you make moulding your character with often permanent effects, Fable II allows players to become fierce travelling warriors or settle down with a family. With the option to do good or evil, Fable II is one of the most immersive games of its generation and is complemented by a gorgeously realised open world.

8. Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 is a co-operative action horror that takes you and friends through cities, swamps and cemeteries across five thrilling campaigns. With a range of infected enemies to deal with – including the Jockey, Spitter and Charger – this is an intense experience that will keep you on your toes, as you never know what is lurking around the next corner. Endlessly thrilling and brutally intense, Left 4 Dead 2 is scarily good.

7. Alan Wake

This deeply psychological and finely crafted thriller puts players in the shoes of the titular Alan Wake, a celebrated suspense author investigating the disappearance of his fiancée in the idyllic town of Bright Falls. With intense combat, a stunning sense of cinematic atmosphere and a truly innovative use of light, Alan Wake is an unforgettable and disturbing journey into the heart of darkness.

6. Forza Horizon 2

The open-world Forza Horizon games are a jewel in the Xbox’s crown, and the finest entry on the Xbox 360 was the stunning Forza Horizon 2. With over 200 cars, a stunning day and night cycle and diverse landscapes, Horizon 2 offers a passionate celebration of driving, music and freedom on the world’s greatest roads. Vroom vroom.

5. Dead Rising

It may have since been released on other consoles, but the original Dead Rising was the exclusive title that made me buy an Xbox 360. Loved for its quirky black humour and reluctance to take itself too seriously, Dead Rising is at its best – and most fun – when you’re creatively slaying the undead with everything and anything at your disposal. One of the most over-the-top and addictive survival horrors in gaming, and there are few boss fights as harrowing as Adam the Clown…

4. Lost Odyssey

If you’re a fan of traditional JRPG with hours to kill, look no further than this long, arduous journey. Filled with engrossing story that fleshes out all of its characters, a powerful turn-based strategy system, stunning presentation and a beautiful score, Lost Odyssey is a stunning masterpiece that excels across the board. This is a definitive JRPG that feels like a passionate throwback to the early masterpieces of the genre.

3. Gears of War

The original. The best. Gears of War is one of the most celebrated and beloved games on Microsoft’s home consoles thanks to its innovative gameplay, over-the-top action and brutal violence. This is a terrific game that holds up ridiculously well today, with a cinematic art style and addictive gameplay that remind us why we pumped so many hours into this title back when it was released. A masterpiece of action gaming.

2. Crackdown

Jumping from building to building across the skyline of Pacific City or throwing double-decker buses at gang-lords, Crackdown drops you in a crime-ridden urban playground with the tools to develop your own style of justice. Bursting with totally over-the-top action and a destructible environment to die for, Crackdown is one of the highlights of the Xbox 360 that plays just as well today as it ever has. A ridiculous legend of modern action gaming.

1. Halo 3

An early review of Halo 3 stated the game was ‘essential’ and that ‘an Xbox 360 without it was like a human without a heart’. To this day, the statement rings true. With stunning gameplay, endless replayability, incredible production values and the finest multiplayer on the console, Halo 3 is a gaming masterpiece that holds up as one of the finest titles ever released. Simply incredible across the board. It does not get any better.
