9. Resident Evil 5


With more of a focus on action than previous titles in the series, Resident Evil 5 opened up a different path for RE which results in a damn fine co-operative experience. Providing thrilling, authentic action-horror fun, Resident Evil 5 encourages discussion with your gaming partner regarding how to beat a boss, navigate an area or process through its terrifying world – and it’s certainly the most fun entry in the series.


8. Army of Two


Slickly presented and packed with surprisingly intelligent AI, Army of Two is an intensely fun co-op experience that still feels unique and innovative. As the title suggests, this is a teamwork-based game that, while playable in single-player with an AI partner, is vastly more enjoyable in split-screen. With memorable character design, customisable weapons and terrific, unforgettable action, Army of Two is a hugely underrated modern classic.


7. Rainbow Six Vegas 2


As any Rainbow Six player will tell you, this is not a franchise for run-and-gunners or spray-and-prayers. Rainbow Six demands patience, tactics and a whole lot of teamwork – something that is proved by the incredible Rainbow Six Vegas 2. This masterpiece of tension includes a stunning campaign and an arcade ‘Terrorist Hunt’ mode that can be customised to your liking. Endlessly replayable, Vegas 2 is a blast.


6. Splinter Cell: Conviction


With smooth and dynamic gameplay, Splinter Cell: Conviction delivers Sam Fisher’s finest outing to date. This is a game that rewards stealth and makes the game considerably more enjoyable, especially when working through the campaign in co-op with a partner. Splinter Cell has always been the leader in the stealth-based game, and that reputation is on a fine show in this immersive and engrossing thriller.


5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2


One of the most beloved features in Call of Duty is the iconic Zombies mode, which hit a high peak with the release of Black Ops 2. Featuring new game types within the mode including Grief and Turned, Black Ops 2 provides far more options for co-operative zombie-slaying fun. Also introducing a new ranking system, the Zombies mode here was more replayable than ever as teams battle to beat their high scores.

The charmingly over-the-top Borderlands 2 is packed with sassy characters, hilarious humour, amazing stories and ludicrous action – all conspiring to make one of the most preposterously fun titles on the console. With the distinct blending of action shooter and RPG, Borderlands 2 is a delightfully innovative game that features a solid co-operative function that allows players to share the carnage with a buddy.


2. Halo 3


With stunning gameplay, endless replayability, gorgeous production values and truly incredible co-op, Halo 3 is a gaming masterpiece that holds up as one of the finest titles ever released. Simply incredible across the board. There are few things more rewarding and friendship-building than working your way through the campaign on Legendary Mode with a buddy. It just does not get any better than Halo 3.
