Top 10 Xbox Series Games

10. Watch Dogs: Legion

Oi oi, guv’nor! Feeling something like Mr Robot directed by Guy Ritchie, this incredible London-set action romp combines all the guns and geezers of the British crime genre with all the high-tech hacking the series is known for, resulting in the series’ finest hour yet. With a richly detailed futuristic London to explore, seemingly endless playable characters and polished mechanics, this one is an absolute must for genre fans and anyone who wants to see the sights of London from the comfort of their sofa and it looks and sounds phenomenal on the Series X and S.

9. Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Yakuza: Like a Dragon sees you embarking on a journey as Ichiban Kasuga, with the narrative picking up as you are released after 18 years in prison only to then be betrayed by your former boss. What follows is a unique and exciting take on the JRPG genre with a thrilling narrative, interesting characters and a polished turn-based combat system that feels like a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Oh, and the graphics are to die for. This is a phenomenal game that feels destined for classic status.

8. Resident Evil Village

Following on from the utterly harrowing Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, this first-person horror masterpiece will have you on the edge of your seat as you explore the mysterious titular village avoiding vampires, werewolves and other things that go bump in the night. Gorgeously designed with an atmosphere to die for, Resident Evil Village is the closest gaming has come to throwing players right into the middle of a terrifying horror movie - and the result is one of the best Resident Evil games in years.

7. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Unarguably one of the most beloved gaming franchises in history and one of the shiniest jewels in Xbox’s crown, Halo: The Master Chief Collection plays better than ever now on the Xbox Series X and S with improved resolution, frame rate and graphic settings. The games within this majestic bundle of sci-fi shooting fun look beautiful, making playing them a surprisingly emotional experience for people like me who grew up with the games. How good they look now is a sight to behold.

6. Hitman III

Gaming’s slickest assassin latest adventure took him on another globe-trotting series of missions of calculated murder, and the result is easily the finest entry in the series to date. With all of the usual Hitman hallmarks we’ve come to expect - large, stunningly designed levels with seemingly infinite possibilities for assassination - Hitman 3 does everything you want from a Hitman game, and it looks and sounds stunning. A mesmerising franchise-high for one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas.

5. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

As the seventeenth instalment in the series, Call of Duty is showing no signs of slowing down with this thrilling entry set during the early 1980s of the Cold War. With the usual compelling campaign, explosive multiplayer, and return of the much-loved Zombies, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a thrilling entry in the acclaimed series that only goes to further cement its title as the best FPS franchise in gaming. An absolutely essential experience for anyone looking to lock n’ load.

4. Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

Offering the most intense, over-the-top and technically advanced entry in the beloved devilish series, Devil May Cry 5’s enhanced edition available on the Xbox Series X and S offers some incredible features including 4K Turbo Mode and breathtaking ray tracing, taking the phenomena game to the next level. With groundbreaking visuals, thrilling action and a compelling story, this cinematic horror-action experience is essential.

3. Gears 5

Putting players into the shoes of Kait Diaz for the first time, this stunning entry in the Gears of War franchise feels fresh – and looks particularly beautiful on the X and S. Famed for the blood-soaked visuals, the Gears franchise has always been visually stellar, but on the next-gen versions of Microsoft’s flagship console, it’s a whole other bag. Every drop of blood, every blade on the chainsaw, it is all so horrifyingly vibrant and immersive. A real demo of what the console is capable of.

2. Control: Ultimate Edition

Combining the acclaimed base game and all previously released expansions including The Foundation and AWE, Control: Ultimate Edition is an absolute marvel on the X and S, with 60fps targeting and - on the X - 1440p render resolution and 4K output. A truly magnificent title that earns its reputation, and still lives up to the hype as one of the most remarkable titles in modern gaming. A masterpiece.

1. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

One of the most stunning and immersive Assassin’s Creed adventures to date, Valhalla takes players into the dark and violent Viking era. Whether you’re customising your settlement, taking on side quests or journeying through the main campaign, Valhalla is absolutely packed with things to do. Ridiculously lengthy and layered, the game is the biggest and boldest experience yet in the beloved series - and it looks absolutely gorgeous. A true modern masterpiece of gaming.
