Top 10 PlayStation 5 Games

10. Oddworld: Soulstorm

Those unfamiliar with the unique and chilling land of Oddworld are in for a treat. You play as the unlikely hero Abe, a Mudokon slave who had to lead his fellow Mudokons to safety. It’s a tactical 2.5d platform game, where you escort your fellow Mudokons through stunning and dangerous levels. It will remind retro gamers of the series’ PS1 roots, but the fresh coat of paint also makes it a great introduction to the series for newcomers.

9. Hitman 3

In this third-person shooter, you play Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin tasked with finding the best method to kill your target in a variety of open mapped levels. It’s like solving a series of incredibly satisfying (and gory) puzzles - there’s nothing quite like the payoff of getting that perfect assassination after all of the trial and error. With plenty of unique levels, Hitman 3’s going to give you that feeling over and over again.

8. Watch Dogs: Legion

The newest game in the Watch Dogs series is set in near-future London and playing as a rebellious hacker faction fighting the corrupt government means anyone in the street could be recruited to your cause. That’s right, you can play as anyone! A granny, a super spy, or anything in between. Great story, fantastic open-world, flying around the skies of London on hacked drones - Watch Dogs: Legion has it all.

7. Control: Ultimate Edition

As Jesse Faden, a woman with unique psychokinetic powers, it’s up to you to investigate the paranormal force that’s holding a secret government agency hostage. Jesse’s powers feel (and sound) fantastic to use, and The Bureau is a fascinating location to explore, ever twisting and evolving. We’ll steer clear of spoilers and simply say the story is fantastic, and the graphics look all the more stunning on this PS5 edition.

6. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, and follows closely in the footsteps of its predecessor, 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man. Think tight combat, fun puzzles and an incredible cast performance. Notable upgrades for the PS5 edition of this game include the vastly improved load times and the fact they managed to make this game’s graphics even more gorgeous. Prepare to spend a lot of time in photo mode between web-swinging.

5. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

It’s up to you to save the Craftverse by preventing the evil Vex from completing his even eviler machine! The plucky protagonist of the LittleBigPlanet series finally got his own outing in the form of this gorgeous platformer, set in a bright and colourful world. Sackboy has definitely inherited the warmth and humour of its parent game, and the whole experience of playing Sackboy feels like a warm hug. Essential platformer goodness.

4. Immortals: Fenyx Rising

In Immortals you play as a mortal called Fenyx, shipwrecked in a beautiful open world based on Greek Mythology. It’s your job to save the gods from certain doom. Immortals might borrow some ideas - climbing and gliding will feel familiar to Breath of the Wild fans - but its own stunning world, funny characters, tight combat and a lovely 60fps performance mode on PS5 means this game stands tall as a must-buy in its own right.

3. Returnal

Punishing, haunting and impossible to put down. In Returnal you play as Selene, a pilot caught in a time loop on a hostile planet. Forced to face the dangers of this planet, again and again, you slowly discover the secrets of the planet you’re imprisoned on. Returnal is by far one of the best games on the PS5 right now. Made for this console from the ground up, the game truly feels next-gen.

2. Demon’s Souls

Demon’s Souls is a large-scale remaster of the first in the ‘Souls’ series, FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed medieval torture simulators. Well not really - but these legendary action RPG games are notoriously difficult, which is part of why they’re so popular. You’ll die a lot, but improving your skills and coming back for more creates a reward loop quite unlike any other. The perfect buy for any hardcore gamer who gets their hands on a PS5.

1. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

This adventure game is truly a peek into the future of the new console generation. You play as Ratchet and Rivet, two cat-like gun-toting tool-swinging robot-toting aliens fighting to stop their dimensions from falling apart. Hopping between completely different worlds with zero load times really shows off what the next console generation is capable of, and the game’s tight focus, entertaining characters and stunning visuals make this one of the best next-generation experiences available today.
