Top 10 Xbox 360 FPS Games

10. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

On release, gamers considered Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to be a strictly multiplayer title with the campaign feeling only to be an added bonus. I, however, feel it is now time to reappraise this campaign as a solid, intense and action-packed journey through the battlefield that is filled with everything that makes the series so beloved – namely, over-the-top destruction and chaos – and is truly deserving of a place on this list.

9. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

When it comes to FPS games, Call of Duty is certainly going to always make the list. The Xbox 360’s run of CoD action hit its peak with Modern Warfare 2, a powerful and intense game that boats one of the series’ finest campaigns to date. With immersive power and true moments of shock and raw action, the game is truly cinematic and plays like a big-screen action thriller. Combine that with solid split-screen carnage, and you’ve got yourself an explosive night in.

8. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

This deep and introspective shooter is a game for thoughtful players. Beneath the thrilling gunplay and cyberpunk visuals, Deus Ex: Human Revolution asks ethical questions and tests the players with complex choices throughout. As you carve a unique path through the game, you’ll truly feel like this journey is your own and the result is one of the most rewarding and atmospheric shooters on the Xbox 360.

7. Far Cry 3

After a slow and dreary Far Cry 2, this threequel returned to the franchise’s roots with a bang. Taking place in a savage tropical island, players must slash, sneak, detonate and shoot their way through this unforgiving paradise and take down the vicious antagonist Vaas. Richly detailed and packed with content, this vastly explorable open world is a stunning playground for chaos. Far Cry’s finest hour, no contest.

6. Rainbow Six Vegas 2

As any Rainbow Six player will tell you, this is not a franchise for run-and-gunners or spray-and-prayers. Rainbow Six demands patience and slow, tactical play – something that is proved by the incredible Rainbow Six Vegas 2. This masterpiece of tension includes a stunning campaign and an arcade ‘Terrorist Hunt’ mode that can be customised to your liking. Endlessly replayable, Vegas 2 is a blast.

5. The Orange Box

Boasting five terrific games, iconic bundle The Orange Box is packed with content – including, but not limited to, FPS masterpiece Half-Life 2. Every component of this bundle, such as Portal and Team Fortress 2, are unique triumphs with stunning visuals and perfectly executed gameplay. Just a masterpiece release from Valve, with Half-Life 2 worth the purchase alone. One of the greatest shooters in the history of gaming.

4. Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 is a co-operative action horror that takes you and friends through cities, swamps and cemeteries across five thrilling campaigns. With a range of infected enemies to deal with – including the Jockey, Spitter and Charger – this is an intense experience that will keep you on your toes, as you never know what is lurking around the next corner. Endlessly thrilling and brutally intense, Left 4 Dead 2 is scarily good.

3. Titanfall

This fast-paced and versatile combat experience crafted by key developers from the Call of Duty series gives you the freedom to fight as both elite assault Pilots and heavily armoured Titans. However, if there’s one word to describe Titanfall, it would be ‘fun’ – this is a big, bombastic shooter that doesn’t take itself too seriously and instead often feels like an over-the-top 80s movie thanks to its wonderfully explosive action.

2. BioShock

Totally enthralling from beginning to end, the first adventure to Rapture still holds up as the best thanks to an engrossing story, a perfect balance of action and exploration and an incredibly customisable combat and weapon system. Above all else, though, no games do atmosphere like BioShock. With breathtaking originality, this undersea shooter is one of the finest FPS titles on the console.

1. Halo 3

An early review of Halo 3 stated the game was ‘essential’ and that ‘an Xbox 360 without it was like a human without a heart’. To this day, the statement rings true. With stunning gameplay, endless replayability, incredible production values and the finest multiplayer on the console, Halo 3 is a gaming masterpiece that holds up as one of the finest titles ever released. Simply incredible across the board.
